65 translucent recycled glass beads Colour: yellow Average diameter: 10 mm
Technique for making translucent glass beads from Ghana: All the steps described below are hand made. Salvaged glass, mainly from bottles, is sorted by color. After braking it into small fragments the glass is put in clay molds and melted in a traditional kiln. The craftsman uses a kind of nail with handle to pierce the bead as soon as it is removed from the kiln. After cooling down, beads are polished by rubbing them together with sand and water on a smooth stone.
